Ways to Save Money

Going from dating to marriage and joining all of our finances together is kind of complicated. One thing we’re discovering though is that combining everything has some advantages. We’re saving money by getting a joint car insurance policy. We are trying to be better about sticking to a budget. It’s hard to do, but it’s definitely the smart thing to do. It’s good practice for the future when we’ve got a house payment and kids. We’ve still got some time until all of that!

Another Schedule Change

Work is once again changing my schedule. That’s the third time in the past three months. It’s driving me crazy. I was actually happy with this schedule because even though it was graveyard, at least I got Sundays off with my girl. I really need to find a job that I love and soon. I just want to be able to support my future family and come home to see my wife at the end of the day. Hopefully things will turn around soon.

I Need a Real Career

I know I just got this job, but it’s really not working out. Graveyard shift is incredibly challenging. First you have to stay awake all night while you wander around. Second, if something exciting like a medical issue does happen, all you can think about is that 2 hour long report you have to write up afterwards. I’ve always thought it’d be cool to work in the medical field. I’ve looked into healthcare jobs but a lot of them require going back to school. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens with the sheriff job. Otherwise I may just have to take out more student loans and try my hand in the nursing field.

Getting Sick

I think I’m getting sick from this new schedule and all of the cigarette smoke in the casino. I hope my health insurance kicks in soon and is half as good as North Carolina health insurance. I’m pretty much tired all the time. I really really need a nap. At least i get the next two days off! Time to SLEEP.

No More Beard Face

The job officially started, so in addition to shaving my beard off for the fire house, I have to shave it for work too. I must have some natural vitamins for hair because my stubble grows pretty quick, which is good for my days off. My lady likes my stubble.

The new job is pretty cool. I get to wear a badge and my uniform is pretty similar to a police officer’s, at least in terms of color. I’m working the graveyard shift which means I’ll be working all night til early in the am. It’s rough and an adjustment but I think ultimately I’m going to like it here.

Work is Giving Me a Headache

The new job is really starting to piss me off, which sucks. I feel like I work my a$$ off and then the work just keeps piling up. My boss won’t hire anyone new, even though we need at least two more employees. By the end of the day, I have horrible stress headaches, like someone is taking stainless steel drums to my temples. It’s not fun! I know I could run that business so much better than my boss. Someday I’ll be a business owner, and I’ll do things RIGHT.

Back to School

My girlfriend has been talking about going back to school, and might start doing some GMAT prep. She’s thinking of getting her teaching credential. I think she’d be great at teaching, and would probably really enjoy it. But it probably won’t happen until next year, which gives us both time to save. I’d like to start earning more, so she doesn’t feel pressured to work full time and go to school. Hopefully I’ll get a raise soon and we can talk about it more.

Will Work For Personal Satisfaction

I have come to the realization that it is very difficult to find a job that you love. I always figured I would find a career and settle right into it…I guess that has partly happened…I have found Firefighting, however I haven’t quite been able to land a job yet. Currently I am working for the family business doing property management, however I am not so sure that this career is that good of a fit for me. I think I need something more hands on and more active. I can be a desk jockey when I am older but while I am young I want to have a job that I truly love, and a job which brings me excitement. I have been looking into jobs in the skilled trades specifically HVAC work, however in this horribly depressing economy there aren’t too many jobs available especially considering that the unemployment rate in California is over 10%, I have a lot of competition out there for those jobs. It isn’t as much work holding onto my current job as it is going out to find a new one in an area I am not very familiar with. However I am going to keep at it, and i just hope I can land a fire job even sooner.

Whats the Point?

Have you ever had one of those days where you just say whats the point? Where you feel like you are on the verge of either absolute bliss or utter insanity. Where you are perfectly balanced on the edge of a steep cliff but with one gust of wind you could be sent tumbling down into the sheer abyss. Where you feel like one moment you could fall asleep in a nice field of grass and the next you may be spotted charging a cell tower only to climb to the top where you would release a tremendous rebel yell. Yeah… I am pretty much there. I have been sick for about 2 weeks now and I am hoping to see its end soon. I also keep thinking that everything with the economy is going to get better but nothing really seems to be improving. I just don’t get it…people keep losing their jobs yet no new jobs are being made even though we are told the economy is going to boost up again. I have an idea how about we get those without jobs to go downtown and clean up our streets. I mean it will give them something to do while they receive unemployment. Secondly we should stop supporting people who have over 5 kids. If you have over 5 kids you are automatically unable to receive tax dollars. If you have 4 kids you cannot receive tax dollars until you get your tubes tied. I have more ideas but ill save those for another post…this stuff is getting old. Things were supposed to change.

I Got A New Monitor At Work

Its both funny and sad how people, myself included get excited over new things. I guess receiving new material things are one of the few ways people these days can truly experience the “unknown”. I know makes us sounds pretty lame doesn’t it? Whatever…deal. I came into work today and found a little box on my desk. It was like Christmas but a few months early. I flipped the box over to reveal two words plastered across the top of the box “Viewsonic monitors“. Awesome!!! So I quickly Unwrapped the unnecessary luxury and placed it next to my other monitor and now I have two monitors. I know the excitement will wear off in a few days because now i just have twice the surface area to loose the mouse in but who cares…I am work spoiled.
